It was a whirlwind competitionstarting with a video submissions in the round one, a quick 5 minute set in round two, XM representatives narrowed it down to 5 comics from each city and the online votes began for round three. Round four was a star studded night with some talented judges on the panel watching our every move and critiquing for who would become “Canada’s Next Top Comic.”
I was lucky enough to have been there for every stage of this contest that stretched on for almost two and a half months and even luckier to be declared the winner. I’ve probably said this a million time by now but it really keeps coming back and making think of all the things I’ve got to do this year in comedy. “I’ve had a great year” I started the year with getting into the laugh off and making it to the Top 8 Comics, just wow. Getting my first television show as a series regular “Prank Science” on Discovery Channel. Getting signed with Yuk Yuk’s something I’ve wanted to do since I’ve started. Winning a Canadian Comedy Award for “Best Stand Up Newcomer.” And now being crowned SiriusXM’s Canada’s next top comic. I never dreamt of achieving any of these goals starting out as a young comic, I just wanted to be funny and respected.
Here’s an article about the final show:
PRANK SCIENCE: EPISODE 8
We give Test Subject Aaron a close encounter of the worst kind after he’s sent to investigate reports of strange sounds and lights coming from an abandoned warehouse. But surely he won’t believe that a UFO has landed and that there’s an alien on the loose, right? Wrong.
The rest of the show is all about chemistry. Test Subject Tanya thinks she’s been hired to help out on a beer commercial shoot at a backyard swimming pool. But how will she react when we convince her that she’s caused a dangerous chemical spill. Our Crash Test Scientist Eric Andrews gets up close and personal with a Mentos and Diet Cola geyser when he’s hoisted above a bottle and shot in the face… repeatedly. And finally, test subject Nicole is hired to co-host a science webcast for a camera-shy chemistry professor, but how will she react when he accuses her of setting off a dangerous looking chemical reaction that ruins his life’s work?
I just wanted to thank all of the people who voted for me during the Sirius XM “Canada’s Next Top Comic” competition. You know what even the people who didn’t vote I’ll also thank you. I know not everyone had a chance to vote or maybe you voted for someone else in the contest I understand. I was very grateful to make it into the semis. But it turns out I didn’t get enough votes to make it into the finals. That’s why I’m just saying thank you to everyone……
BUT I was selected as one of the wildcards for the competition, SO I will still be going to the FINALS for a chance to win $10,000 Big Ones, hopefully it’s not all in ones. The Finals will be held at Yuk Yuk’s in Toronto, Tuesday November 15th at 7:00PM. It will also be aired LIVE on XM’s Laugh Attack. Two options to see the show Live or Live to air. Hmmm Only $4.00 to see the real thing in person OR sit in your car in the drive way and listen to it. Either way you’re getting out of the house.
THANK YOU EVERYONE ONCE MORE
