How About A Giant Slip and Slide?

PRANK SCIENCE: EPISODE 2

On this episode of Prank Science we find new ways to experiment with our test subjects in the name of science. Aspiring actor Mike thinks he’s caught a lucky break when he’s cast as a drug addict in a new police training video. But he’s in for the surprise of his life after a piece of poppy seed cake he eats triggers a false positive on a drug test — and a harsh smack down from a threatening police officer. Our hidden camera crew sets up at a restaurant patio to explore the idea of mob mentality. Will our test subjects follow the herd when everyone in the mob suddenly ducks for cover from an unseen menace?

We shoot our Crash Test Scientist Eric Andrews down a homemade slip and slide to test the theory of kinetic friction. And we finish things up by looking at the science of lying. When test subjects Sarah and Erin are hired as production assistants on a new science chat show, they’re quickly mistaken for a world-renown psychologist and put live on the air. Will they lie and pretend to be the real interviewee? Or will they come clean and tell the truth? We’re not going to lie — this episode rocks!

Funniest Newcomers of All Time, of this year.

WHAT A SHOW!

This year five Canadian based stand up comedians have been nominated for “Best Stand Up Comedy Newcomers”  by the Candian Comedy Awards. Over Hundreds and hundreds of people applied this year in what has been said to be a record year for submissions. So It’s a pretty big deal. Naturally we’re putting on a show to celebrate. Starring the five newcomers as well as hosted by “2005 Best Newcomer Winner” and 2011 “Best Male Stand Up Nominee”, Mark Forward! He is also my favourite comic, like ever. Just always love being on a show with this guy anywhere. The backstage jokes are almost more fun then the ones we bring to stage.

On the show we have:
Eric Andrews
Rhiannon Archer
Matt Carter
DJ Demers
and Dylan Gott

I’m writing this message after the fact that this show has happened and let me tell you something. You all missed out. But don’t worry you can come see us sometime in October when we do it for real and all the marbles and three times as much money to get in. Good Luck to all the other nominees.

Prank Science: EPISODE 1

In the premiere episode of Prank Science, we turn the world into our laboratory, and experiment with the people in it! Enter our test subject, Matthew. His career as an infomercial host takes a turn for the worse on his very first day on the job! Matthew discovers that the miracle health shake he’s endorsing causes a dangerous parasite to grow inside anyone who drinks it (too bad we forgot to tell him untilafter he had a drink).

Also, we use waterproof sand to cheat our way to a win in a sandcastle-building competition, while our Crash Test Scientist, Eric Andrews becomes the guinea pig for an experiment that uses a gas-powered scooter to rip the hair from his legs. Finally, Sarah’s job as a maintenance worker goes horribly wrong when she accidentally sets her boss on fire. (Don’t worry, it’s actually a stuntman covered in a special fire-retardant gel. Don’t try this at home!)

YUK YUK’S AJAX
(my first weekend spot)

September 15th – 17th, 2011 (3 Shows)

I finally got my first weekend spot at a club. I’ve always wanted to do a weekend at a club because for me I felt like I would grow faster and learn more about my jokes if I were to do three or four shows consecutively at the same place.  You would have a different audience every night and you could evolve you jokes by the end of the weekend, hopefully.

The first thing I was worried about was how well I did at Yuk Yuk’s Ajax before; it was the first and last time I went up there. I was really hoping the owner Steve would have just forgotten me completely. Let’s just say my first time there I wasn’t a Yuks signed comedian and… it was a full crowd and… well they were very quite during my set. The second thing I was worried about was the other comics on the show. How would they think of me? Some small cat just chomping at the bit? It’s something that I’m getting rid of slowly; the fear of what people think of you.

The first night went really well. Everyone’s set hit, people were coming up to the comedians after the show saying how great it was. I even had a guy come up to me and say “We were looking for the Toronto Yuk Yuk’s, we got lost ended up here and you made the trip, thank you.” Biggest compliment I’ve gotten in comedy so far I think. He also posted on twitter:  ”I take it back. Stand up comics r in the craziest circumstance ever for a performer. This one no name cat just killed it so hard #blownaway.”  The night was great.

Second night was almost the opposite of the first night, in that my set was generating stares. I do some flirting with elderly women sometimes and I was going at this one woman who was with her husband saying “You’re lucky to have him, but I’m going to take him from you now.” No one laughed; it got pretty silent and she clutched her husbands hand as if she was afraid. She was scared that I was going to kidnap her or something, which isn’t the sentiment of the joke. The sentiment is that she’s worth loving cause she has a husband. Overall the night was okay had a couple people come up to me saying “You’re funny, keep it up.” which is kind of a back handed compliment in my eyes and to top it all off the silence in the room must of re jogged the owner Steve’s memory cause he came up to me after and said “Now I remember who you are, you were here once before, right?”

The third night was fine. It was like a mix of both night put into one. And my uncle was there heard him say “That’s my nephew after I got off stage, made me feel pretty good.

Overall I had a good time doing the weekend had some great chats from Chuck Byrn who was giving me some advice about jokes and reminding me that “I’m terrible” kind of made me feel better with myself; I needed that.
